mooom, hi!!!
what a week for all of us huh?! i totally love havasupi and
i´m way jealous about the mountains and it being summer there. i´m
sorry to hear about that kid, that totally is heartbreaking in every
way. little teeny b-rigs crawls already??! that is so adorable! he was
just one of the smiling babies when i last saw him but i totally trust
you! and sweet ol´ link gets home, that is great news. i feel like
he´s been out on his mission since i was like 1 though.
things are great in argentina!! the language is still way
rough and i´m still one of the guys who just smiles and forces laughs
all the time cuz i don´t really understand anyone, but i´m
understanding more and more everyday and that´s most important i
guess. i´m adjusting for sure, the ward is awesome and i can finally
do jokes in spanish a little bit! my shoes haha they´re doing good, i
stepped in a huge hole of swampy stinky green water the other day cuz
some dogs scared me, but i laughed until i cried and everything was
better. i definately have people to talk to, i communicate good
enough in spanish to fully communicate with any of the other
missionaries who speak english but are speaking spanish cuz they have
yankee accents that are super easy to understand... and aa lot of the
time we speak english eventhough we should always speak spanish. we
don´t have a washer, on p-day we call a service that washes all our
clothes and folds them for like 10 dollars and we don´t have to worry
about it at all.
As for my neat stuff here of the week- there are tons
and tons of mopeds (scooter) here and usually just like one per family
so when they have to carry items that are large or their large family
somewhere their mode of transportation is still their moped. i see
people holding like huge pieces of wood or metal as they drive their
moped down the street and like 3 days ago i got to see a family of
four on one moped! but i´ve heard stories from some of the elders here
about families of five and the kid on the very back is holding a tv
ahaha that would be super cute to see. but also with their cars and
scooters they always try to make them as loud as possible so they can
be cooler i guess. but in our pench at night we sometimes hear drag
races right during the middle of the night because we live on one of
the main roads and it´s even right next to a police station but that´s
not a huge deal. one time one of the cars was so loud that it just
filled our whole house and like we couldn´t even hear eachother yell!
and when it was gone there were car alarms on the street going off
because of how loud it was. some of the cars do the spurting, spitting
thing just like from mr. toad´s wild ride in disneyland and it always
make me think of that so i giggle.
one of the ways we travel here is by bus and when i do i
totally just feel like a city boy but i´m telling you, the buses here
are magical!!! EVERY bus stops at EVERY stop EVERY half hour. it makes
no sense at all, but it totally happens and all the argentine people
are just casual about it like they aren´t totally bending the laws of
physics!
i got my first letters while in argentina last week!!! i
got one from brady johnson, one from charity suttner that was a dear
elder probably from when i was in the mtc so i don´t know how it got
here and so late, and like 9 from dad that go all the way back to
easter. it was so awesome!!! i felt like a super star and loved!
guess what´s the coolest pet i´ve seen here, a hawk! you
were right!!! these people just have a dang hawk living outside like
it´s a dog. it´s not like in a cage and it doesn´t have any kind of
tag, it just lives in the yard and i guess flies wherever it wants
whenever it wants.
guess what else, some little kids totally tried to rob us
last week haha. we were just walking home and we were a little late
when a little punk ( probly like 16) ran up behind us and just asked
if we had cameras. i didn´t even think we were getting robbed at first
because he didn´t have like a weapon of any sorts or anything and we
kinda just said no then kept insisting and i´ll be honest that i had
no idea what he was saying but it was sooo casual eventhough my
companion insists that he was trying to rob us. good thing that we
didn´t have our cameras and he wasn´t looking for anything beside that
i guess, it was just sooo weird. Also we´re moving penches today cuz
the sisters in our district had a problem with their pench so we´re
going to move into that one and then into ours. we went to see it
today and it´s not nearly as nice as our last one, but it´s not right
on the street and it´s way bigger. thus no more drag races at night
and i get to have all my sleep!! :D
the coolest part of the work right now is susana! this
woman had her son die just a little while ago and she was in
incredible pain about it so she went to all the churches just to have
her soul rest about it and find the answers she was looking for. one
of her friends told her about our church and she came to our church
one sunday to find the missionaries and talk to them. so my companion
and his compy before me started teaching her and she loves all of it.
she said that she has never felt the peace that she felt that first
day at church and now she´s getting baptized on saturday and she´s
super excited to recieve the spirit to be able to have that peace at
all times. she is the coolest lady ever eventhough all these bad
things have happened in her life ( her husband passed away also). one
time we left her a passage to read in the book of mormon before we
came back then if she read that we were gonna have her start reading
from the beginning. then when we came back she had read the passage
and also to first nephi three just cuz she loved it! so i´m soooo
stoked for this saturday and that´ll be my first baptism eventhough
the bishop here likes the members to baptize people so they have that
tie into the ward. but i love this work so much! i´m so grateful for
our heavenly father´s plan of happiness for us and how we will live
again with those who have passed on. i know that it´s through jesus
christ that all of that is possible and it´s so important to all these
people, they just don´t know it yet! thanks for the support mami, kiss
the family for me. and laura... is awesome, tell her that haha
thanks!! i´ll see you tomorrow!

Jealous about Havasupi
mamzi!!
Holy howzerson it´s great here!!! certainly different because
it´s argentina, but there is so much beauty here. you asked about the
beday and i´m here to tell you that if i ever have to use toilet paper
again i will cry! in fact i tried to just use toilet paper at the
church the other day and i had to go home and wash up in the beday cuz
it just wasn´t the same. yeah, the beday i seperate from the toilet
and my daddy did have to potty-train me once i got here but he´s
patient so it worked out all good :) i´m so jealous about havasupi!!
i´d go back there anyday and i´m glad jason is a certified dental man
so he can save all kinds of lives like that. say congrats to branson
for me, would you? that´s so awesome, i´ve always dreamed of doing
what he´s already accomplished.
have you ever heard of above ground cemetaries? idk if
that´s how you spell it in english but they are so awesome! we have
them here and i guess they are just like random gorgeous buildings all
together for dead people in baskets. i´ll try to send some pictures
sometime if i can figure it out. also, guess what you do in argentina
if you want to sell your car? wrong, you put a half-filled 2 liter
bottle of water on top of it hahaha that makes all the sense in the
world huh? haha it´s so funny, i sure hope i don´t get a car here then
accidently leave my soda on the top.
I finally saw the affects of himidity. it´s dead winter here
so there is not a ton of humidity right now, but the other day i guess
like a wave of it hit us and EVERYTHING was just wet! and it was like
a super hot day right in the middle of winter and i totally love it!
goodness i´m so glad i got assigned here :) also i guess that´s the
reason why nobody has carpet here cuz it would all just be like that
room downstairs that used to get flooded by zac every week haha
chiste.
I would love to send some of those candies home and i sure
will try! the only problem is that i´m a missionary so i don´t really
have the funds to send packages or things of that sort unless i save
up for a while so i will try to do that:) i´ll start today haha.
and dad, HAPPY FATHER´S DAY!!! thank you so much for all
that you´ve done for me to help me get here, where i should be. you´re
the best father a person could have and i´m increasingly more and more
greatful for how you established your wonderful family on the gospel
because i see all the broken families here that didn´t do that and i
just love what a great patriarch you are. Your support for me and
everything i´m doing is so appreciated, i can see how much you love me
through how many letters you write me and how hard you work to keep me
feeling like part of the family still, thank you! i love you.
Thanks for all you do too mami, say hello to the family
for me if you would like, see you on next thursday! :) bi. also, all
the picture stuff didn´t work out so well so let me know how many
pictures you get! or if you do

His companion is Elder Gibbs from St George!
hello mother!
Nothing has really changed here in Texas, we went tracting
on thursday and on friday we ate dinner with some members who were
pretty cool... ahhhhhhh come on, i´m totally in Argentina! this is so
great! the flight was super fun cuz it was night time and they fed us
all kind of airplane food so i finally found out why every comedian says
that stuff is so bad. it was like 10 hours and i wasn´t able to sleep
at all partly because of excitement and partly because i wasn´t quite
sure how to get comfortable, but i made it here and it´s all good :)
Before we left they gave us a paper that said when we get to argentina
to look for a guy named like jose or something and i thought that was
soooooo funny! and i never actually found the guy. when we got off the
plane we went through costums that was super confusing cuz i just handed
this lady my passport and she looked at it and asked me a question to
which i said i don´t understand then she just typed some stuff into her
computer, gave me my passport and waved me on.... sooo confusing, but i
made it i guess! then there was a guy waiting for us outside the airport
with a sign that said our church´s name on it and we totally thought
we(like 6 other people) were home free and safe but not really, he just
took some stuff from us then told us to stand there and wait, so we did
then we saw all the other people who had been waiting for their visas
arrive also and it was a grand reunion
We all boarded a bus with this driver that was smoking so
we couldn´t quite be sure if he was associated with the church but i
guess so because we made it up to the president´s house. the drive was
so strange, they have no rules for the roads here so some people drive
really slow but mainly everyone drives super fast and doesn´t really
worry about what any other driver is doing ahaha so neat. we stayed in
the mission home for 3 days where we pretty much just had meetings with
the pres and learned the rules of the mission and taught the natives how
to say hilarious stuff. a cool part though was that i was reunited with
my whole district from the mtc so they´re all serving here with me now.
we got taken to a church to see who our parents were
going to be and they just read off all the companionships so the two
would just stand up and go hug then sit down together. my companions
name is elder christopher gibbs and he is from saint george utah!!! we
asked the president later and he said he had no idea about that. he
graduated in 2010 and he is cousins with logan simpson, someone i knew
in high school and he totally knows chuck a little and some other people
i know. he is just the nicest guy ever and totally a hard worker. he
speaks castellano greatly and is way patient with translating things for
me so that i can understand what´s going on and actually learn things.
so don´t worry about me at all mom, i´m in great hands! :)
the ride to our area was pretty rough, i won´t lie. the
buses are tiny and crammed with people and they really like to go fast
and slow really fast. i think they think it´s just most useful if the
bus goes as fast as it possible can at all times but just stops when it
needs to which makes sense i guess, but kinda gave me a huge headache.
where i am is actually a pretty big city called san nicolas. it looks
just like what i´d imagine italy to look like and most the people speak
with an italian influctuation in their voice.
the people here are super awesome and humble and super
crazy for what they call dulce de leche... what i like to call third
world carmel haha that´s bad, sorry. but they have this candy called and
alphahore which is just dulce de leche in between like little crackers
with chocolate on top and one girl asked us how we live without it in
america haha it was cute, but definately strange. all the food is soooo
good though, they have the best bread ever and all the members love to
feed the missionaries because of the blessings they receive from it. we
are over a ward of about 105 people who are all just awesome members and
always want to help us if they can.
They really have bedaes here!! i don´t know if that´s how
you spell it but they are so awesome, i totally love them! we have one
in our apartment so we have to use a towell to dry off afterward so i
don´t know what i´m going to do if i use one outside the apartment...
but they´re really the greatest idea ever, i always feel way more clean
now! my apartment totally rules though, we have like the nicest one in
the mission i heard. a big shock though was the tile floor, all the
floors are always tile pretty much. i now realize how much i totally
loved carpet.
i finally found out what they meant by castellano!!! here
is the perfect explanation. it´s as if america had made up our own word
for the different dialect of english we speak in america as compared to
england. so if you say that they speak spanish they always always
correct you.
the trees here are huge!!!! i like to refer to them as
jurassic park trees cuz their all ginormous and have super weird leaves
most the time. plus it´s like the dead of winter here and they´re all
still green somehow. the neatest things happen here.
sorry that my thoughts are super scattered but i´m
running out of time! the people here give kisses on cheeks instead of
hand shakes, it was so weird for me the first. we were just doing a door
approach and this old lady came out and kissed me right on my face and
it´s happened a few other times since then. the old ladies aren´t the
bad ones cuz that´s kinda just like a grandma, it´s just really weird
when the men do it but that´s only happened once... in 4 days of being
here. also something that was super neat is that the milk is all in
bags, just little bags that are probably like a fourth of a gallon and
once you open the bag you put it in a box so it can stand straight up
and it won´t spill out.
Also i got the opportunity to talk in church on my first
sunday here. i have a really strong feeling that nobody really knew any
of the words i was trying to say but they were all super nice about it.
i also got one of the best compliments probably ever, this brother told
me that i powerfully with the spirit and i´m going places haha, i
didn´t understand any of it though so my companion had to translate for
me. so the people here are great too, don´t worry about anything mom :)
Welp, we need to go make some purchases so i´ll talk to
you in a week! but tell Fuller and Jash happy birthday for me would you?
and about sending that package here i´m super sorry about how expensive
that probably was! we get letters and packages any time our zone
leaders go to the presidents house which is in rosario and i´m pretty
sure it´s like once a month, but thanks so much dad and grandma for
sending it, i´m stoked for it!! and i´m stoked about argentina!! i´ll
let you know all about it next week also. love you mamsi! send la
familia my love also please! -elder emett (not at texas!!! at south
america!!)

On his way to Argentina!
Hey look ma, i'm dancing!!
I have no idea at all how those rumors got to you through bishop Tenney and Laura, that's probably the craziest thing i've heard since i talked to a j-dub! You should have heard through president Lyman because the definitely contact all the stake presidents about it. but they're all true!! right now it's 10:30 and I'm fixin to go to Argentina around 4!!! so i might call you sometime today or i might not cuz we have like no lay-over at all i heard, but by this time tomorrow i'll finally be an Argentine... if everything goes right.
I totally have mixed emotions about it though. just this last week was the first time i decided since i got here that if i were to stay in Texas my whole mission, that would be just great. I found this awesome investigator out while tracting named thomas who was my age and he just wanted to know how to be forgiven of all this guilt he had accumulated. it was late at night so we didn't get to talk to him much, but he totally wanted us to come back over and he wanted to know all about it. Plus i had just gotten to be way better friends with all the members and i had a sweet work-out schedule going with my comps and i would have been super happy staying right in Perryton, Texas for 2 more years. But the Lord sure does know what i need and i guess it's time for me to go to Argentina now :D
I have no idea what that ladies deal was with the church and why she didn't want her family to be baptized and i guess i'll kinda never figure out, but it got worse while i was there. Her and her husband were kind of just butting heads about it and they busted out into this fight so she thought the only answer is that they stop seeing the missionaries... suuuuper sad :/ But my compys know how to handle it and she was really awesome so i have faith that she'll let go of that doubt, whatever it is.
I. SAW. MOUNTAINS!!!! no lie, yesterday when we driving down here to lubbock. they were nothing like utah and especially nothing like northern utah, but i saw some neat little cute ones. and now that i'm in lubbock it feels like i'm in Disneyland cuz i'm used to like35 people tops driving around town, but there's a billion cars here and even people outside walking. There are skyscrapers and people actually work a little harder here to make the buildings look nice. they do a good job.
Well i don't have much time, but i just wanted you to know i'm doing great and i didn't want you to be surprised when i called you and said i'm going to argentina or when i emailed you in two weeks and said i'm in argentina. i'm glad you liked the pictures though, i probly should have done that a lot more.. sorry ha. don't worry at all about the money, i have plenty of cash and i don't even know if it will be worth anything in just like a couple hours here, maybe i'll just have to burn it or something. JOKES. i'll see you tomorrow in different countries! send the fams my love.
